Staff Highlights
Congratulations to the two fellow staffers below who were both recently presented with some well-deserved honors:
- Alan Joynson, instructor at the Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation (HTR) in Tillamook: Alan was presented the Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year award from Oregon Association for Career and Technical Education (OACTE) at the group’s April Conference. OACTE supports career and technical education through leadership, advocacy, professional development, and partnerships. Alan noted that “It‘s good to be recognized by your colleagues.”
- Kari Hill, Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant: Kari received the Michelle Smith-Sullivan Award for excellence in education-based therapy services.
Tillamook EI/ECSE Receives $1,000 Grant
Congratulations to the Tillamook Service Center EI/ECSE program for being the recipient of a $1,000 Community 101 Grant. Administrator Helen Armstrong will receive the grant today and the funds will provide building materials for students at TOPS (Tillamook Options Program) to build a “Safety Town” on the Service Center’s preschool playground. The program is excited about this grant and the opportunity to have this creative play area constructed for the children.
Washington County EI/ECSE Honored by Community Action Organization
The agency’s Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education Program in Washington County received Community Action Organization’s Outstanding Community Partner award at their 2012 Celebration of Community Spirit Awards Banquet Wednesday at the Oregon Zoo. The award is given to an individual or organization that has been a collaborative partner in furthering Community Action’s mission and whose work is focused on responding to the causes and conditions of poverty in Washington County. Congratulations EI/ECSE staff!

Join us this month as we celebrate staff who are retiring at the end of this school year with individual, county-focused receptions.

Important! If you plan on retiring from NWRESD with PERS prior to July 1, 2012, (or know of someone who will), please let the Human Resources Dept. know ASAP at twing@nwresd.k12.or.us or 503-614-1482.
Technology Purchasing Requests Deadline THIS FRIDAY MAY 18!
In order to process your end-of-year requests for technology purchases, we would like to have all your requests by Friday, May 18, 2011. Administrators may submit their requests directly to Hung Wasson (503-614-1690 or hwasson@nwresd.k12.or.us). Please include the following information:
- List the requested item(s)
- A statement of authorization to purchase
- Budget account code

All 500+ NWRESD staff meet together once each year for professional renewal, training, & team building. All employees must attend this important event. - You are responsible for knowing what your responsibilities are in the case of delays or closures. View the procedures on the Emergency Closure” page indicated above. If you have questions, please speak to your supervisor.

Staff can subscribe to receive real-time closure and delay information from NWRESD and component districts via email and cell text messages at http://flashalert.net/. Once there, click on a city on ‘Portland’ on the map, then choose the region you are looking for: NWRESD service centers and component districts are listed under “No. Ore. Coast Schools”, “Columbia Co. Schools:”, and “Washington Co. Schools”.
